employers engaging with 14-19 year olds

Wood Holmes, as part of a consortium led by Northern Education, recently completed a project on behalf of the North East 14-19 commission, looking at the extent to which employers are working with schools and colleges to offer young people training opportunities.

Alongside Wood Holmes and Northern Education, the consortium also incorporated New Skills Consulting and Clothier Lacey & Co. Together they were asked to develop and implement a framework capable of encouraging a deeper and broader level of engagement between educational organisations and employers in the area.

In the North East, much of the business community is already working with schools, colleges, training providers and universities to support the 14-19 Regional Commission. However, a great many more organisations need to consider how they can engage with young people to provide the opportunities they need to continue their education and launch their careers.

A key role of the Commission is to foster joint working between employers and education organisations, putting in place practical education programmes to equip young people with the skills employers need.

More information about the research and the framework can be found on the Skills North East Website here
