Wood Holmes is currently conducting research into skills needs in Yorkshire and Humberside’s food and drink industry on behalf of Improve (the sector skills council for food and drink manufacturing) and the National Skills Academy (NSA). The results from the study will form the foundation of a new strategy for driving innovation and growth in the region’s largest manufacturing sector.
Commissioned by the NSA, and funded by Yorkshire Forward, the study marks the first detailed analysis of skills and training provision in the region’s £8 billion industry.
Wood Holmes previously conducted a study on skills and training provision within the North East’s Food and Drink Industry in 2008 and found that although evidence suggested that businesses were increasing investment in training, there were opportunities around management and leadership development for the sector.
The results of the current research in Yorkshire and Humberside are set to be published at a regional Skills Summit to be held at St Paul’s Hotel, Sheffield on 14 October.
