Recent research conducted for the Learning and Skills Council North East identified that relatively few Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) learners are progressing to Level 2 and Level 3 within Further Education compared with White students.
To tackle this issue, the LSC commissioned us to identify why this is the case and devise strategies for increasing the proportion of BME learners studying at Level 2 and 3.
We are now holding two innovative seminars, which bring together learning providers and Black & Minority Ethnic learners to discuss the issues and identify ways of addressing this inequality.
The team are also in the process of developing a role model programme, which aims to support BME learners to overcome the barriers they face when progressing to Level 2 and 3 within Further Education.
The project is the first of its kind in the North East region, and perhaps beyond, and we’re delighted to be playing such an instrumental role in the development and delivery of practical solutions to reduce inequalities.
