driving equality outcomes

Wood Holmes Group have been invited to play an integral part in helping to promote equality. Following their research examining how inequalities in Further Education can be addressed, Clare Galland and Jacki Holmes are to continue to work with the Learning & Skills Council North East to drive regional activity in increasing the participation of BME (Black & Minority Ethnic) groups in Further Education.

This activity is an integral part of an LSC action plan, based on evidence from their seminal piece of action research ‘Addressing Inequalities’, commissioned from Wood Holmes Group.

The research investigated:

# Why the achievement rate of male learners in Further Education at Levels 2 and 3 was lower than for female learners and
# Why a comparatively small proportion of BME learners engaged in Further Education above Level one.

Stuart Linden, Equality & Diversity Advisor for Learning & Skills Council North East, said: ‘The project provided us with some clear, deliverable recommendations which we are taking forward. This was the first time that we had commissioned a piece of action research of this nature and we are very happy with the way Wood Holmes Group has carried out this work. We would now like them to form part of the key players and strategic thinkers helping to implement the recommendations.’

A copy of this research report is available to stakeholders and practitioners in Equality & Human Rights and Further Education on request here.
